For Immediate Release
On October 14, 2009, Dick Hebert, President, and all employees of D & D Commodities Ltd. located in Greeley, will receive their first SHARP award from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Washington, DC. OSHA’s Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program, or SHARP, is the Department of Labor’s premier national recognition program for small business safety excellence.
D & D Commodities Ltd. will receive three plaques during the award presentation. One plaque is from the Department of Labor, a second plaque from the Colorado State University Consultation Program, and a third plaque for the employees. The new Acting Assistant Secretary of Labor-OSHA, Jordan Barab, signed their SHARP certification followed by letters from Federal OSHA Region VIII, Denver, acknowledging their award and granting OSHA inspection exemption for the company until August 2010.
SHARP is difficult to earn and harder to keep as it requires on-site audits and documented, sustained safety performance well above OSHA compliance. There are approximately 1000 active SHARP companies in the entire country and just 45 in Colorado.
D & D Commodities Ltd. partnered with Colorado State University’s OSHA Consultation Project in 2005 in order to improve their safety and health program and continue to provide a safe workplace for its employees. OSHA’s Safety and Health Consultation program is a voluntary and cooperative service between OSHA and small business in all 50 states and territories. That relationship resulted in D & D Commodities Ltd. (Colorado) attaining its first national SHARP recognition.
As one of Greeley’s long-term businesses, D & D Commodities Ltd. is a leader in the small business sector of northern Colorado. Their success is attributable to management commitment and employee involvement. D & D Commodities Ltd. will be posted on the DOL/OSHA national website (www.osha.gov) under SHARP.
